Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive cranio-maxillofacial plastic surgery is a surgical specialty that deals with the treatment of congenital skull and facial anomalies, cleft palate, highly complex craniofacial injuries, craniofacial tumors, maxillomandibular and ocular orbital anomalies, as well as craniosynostoses (such as scaphocephaly or dolichocephaly, trigonocephaly, posterior plagiocephaly, etc.), or congenital birthmarks ranging from simple tongue frenulum to complex craniofacial deformities.

More specifically, in this department of Hygeia Hospital, surgical treatment is offered for the mouth, jaws, and facial region:

– Facial trauma.

This includes soft tissue injuries, fractures of the jaw or other facial bones; they may be isolated injuries or part of a polytrauma.

– Surgical treatment of misaligned jaws.

Orthognathic surgery is performed to reposition the jaws. These operations are performed for both functional and aesthetic reasons.

– Intraoral surgical treatments. Some of the procedures performed through this surgery include:

Treatment of infections in the jaw, removal of jaw cysts, placement of mini dental implants, removal of stones from salivary glands, and remodeling of hard or soft tissues for prosthetic purposes.

– Congenital deformities in the facial and oral region.

Cases where a child is born with unjoined lips or palate (cleft lip) are examples of the deformities treated by this surgery.

– Temporomandibular joint disorders, also known as TMJ.

– Salivary gland surgery,

– Facial aesthetic surgery, tumor surgery in the facial area and more are some of the procedures this specialty covers.

In collaboration with ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, ophthalmologists, neurosurgeons, dentists, and others, oral & maxillofacial surgery contributes to the diagnosis and surgical/nonsurgical treatment of pathologies that require complex evaluation and management.
