The Infectious Diseases Department at Hygeia Hospital is responsible for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in general. According to the hospital’s internal organization, this department handles patients over the age of 14. The care of patients aged 0–14 is provided by infectious disease specialists within the Pediatrics Department.
Some of the syndromes or diseases treated by the specialists in this department include:
- Viral infections (infectious mononucleosis, Herpes viruses, VZV, influenza, viral hepatitis, etc.).
- Foodborne infections (food poisoning, gastroenteritis, etc.).
- Animal-transmitted infections (brucellosis, leptospirosis, leishmaniasis, rickettsioses, etc.).
- Parasitic infections (ascariasis, enterobiasis, tapeworms, etc.).
- Sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, mycoplasma, etc.).
- Central nervous system infections (meningitis, encephalitis, discitis, etc.).
- Septic conditions of various origins, as well as prolonged fever of unknown cause in collaboration with other specialists.
