Hygeia ICU is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology to ensure the treatment of critically ill patients and the performance of all necessary diagnostic procedures on-site.
Each bed is prepared to offer respiratory support or mechanical ventilation with all required parameters, as well as full hemodynamic monitoring and support. Among the most specialized hemodynamic support and monitoring procedures, we can mention:
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
- Continuous ultrafiltration and dialysis methods
- Continuous intracranial pressure monitoring (ICP monitoring)
Diagnostic procedures performed within the ICU include:
- All radiographic exams
- All types of ultrasound
- Endoscopic exams in critically ill patients (bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, etc.)
- Minimally invasive percutaneous tracheostomies
- Cardioversions
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies (PEG)
For critically ill patients requiring exams outside the ICU (CT, MRI, etc.), the hospital provides facilities and conditions that ensure safe patient transport, including dedicated elevators, respiratory and hemodynamic support during the procedure, enabling timely and high-quality service.
The Hygeia ICU team is composed of highly qualified and experienced physicians and nurses. Teamwork, ongoing professional education, strict application of modern protocols, and high ethical and professional standards in patient care are the foundation and key to the success of this vital department. This combination of factors contributes to the ICU’s very low rates of infection, complications, and mortality.
The ICU treats patients with severe illnesses from various medical specialties, including medical, surgical, cardiac, pulmonary, and neurological cases. All these patients require continuous monitoring of vital signs and support for life-sustaining systems and organs.
Categories of patients treated in the ICU include:
- All patients who have undergone major surgical procedures such as cardiac or neurosurgery, major hepatic, vascular, thoracic surgeries, etc.
- Patients who have undergone major surgeries with a high risk of serious complications, even if currently stable (e.g., after pulmonary surgery, carotid surgery, elderly patients)
- All patients needing specialized respiratory care, frequent bronchial aspirations, etc. (e.g., chronic pneumopathy with disease exacerbation, cerebrovascular accidents, disabled patients needing respiratory support, etc.)
- Patients with cardiac issues at high risk for serious complications, even if currently stabilized.
