Why Consult a Psychologist

People who come to the hospital often feel a change in their own functioning and that of their family. They may feel tired, angry, sad, anxious, or have many questions. These feelings accompany them through different stages: at the beginning, during treatment, or even afterward.

Meeting with a psychologist can be difficult at first due to cultural stigmas around this service or concerns about confidentiality. However, extensive experiences from other countries, as well as recent ones in Albania, show that psychological counseling is highly beneficial.

The psychologist helps you talk about yourself, your fears, what you’re going through, and any other concerns.

They allow you to express what you may not be able to tell anyone else, while ensuring professional confidentiality. Speaking about your emotions causes less suffering than keeping them inside. As a professional who has no emotional or family ties, the psychologist can listen and understand without judgment.

Psychological Counseling

The psychologist at Hygeia Hospital conducts psychological assessments and counseling sessions with individuals facing personal difficulties related to physical health problems, as well as with their families. Various theoretical and therapeutic frameworks support the psychological approaches used to manage their issues. The psychologist may use psychological tests to evaluate intellectual abilities and other individual characteristics.

Psychological support is the result of a long process of identifying needs and expectations. The psychologist listens to the person’s concerns, experiences, and needs, and helps them accept their health reality. The therapeutic role of the psychologist allows for connections to be made between the past, present, and future. The psychologist is part of a multidisciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, and others.
