The Surgical Process

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes between one and two hours.

The surgeon makes a small incision — most commonly in the inframammary fold (the natural crease beneath the breast), which heals discreetly. Other incision sites include the areolar border (periareolar) and, less commonly, the armpit (transaxillary).
